A Mother’s Day Shout Out To Honorary Moms and Other Heroines
I’m not going to lie, I was in a cranky mood for the last week because…well…sometimes people can be too people-y, human and just plain assholes. There are days when it feels like the Universe conspires to bring out all the blockhead dolt dunce fool idiot insensitive jerkface imbeciles at the same time and you must slog your way through their ugly, negative behavior.
But other times - most of the time - the Universe brings out the best in people and places certain people in your life when you need them.
Today’s post is a shout-out to the incredible women who might not be mothers (or are mothers, but not our mother) but show up with a mother’s love. Their care, strength, and presence in our lives matter more than they know.
They are the ones who listen and give good (often unasked for) advice. They remind us to stop drinking so many margaritas, but they don’t mind driving us home when we do. They check in a few times a week just because and will unapologetically slap the Doritos out of our orange fingers as we plow through a bag while complaining about being fat.
After a gathering, they’ll send us home with enough leftovers to feed a football team, share gorgeous clothes, correct our grammar mid-sentence, have our back when some bitch tries to take us down, tells us he’s trash 3 seconds after a breakup, and doesn’t hesitate to offer support while also saying, “That’s a fucking dumb idea.”
I want to take this moment to send a giant THANK YOU to all the girlfriends, stepmothers, aunts, neighbors, cousins, and all the other Super Women who may not have birthed us or share our DNA but still love and mother us every day.
You make the dark days light and turn our frowns upside down. You rockstars, and we love you.
