Birthday Waves and Ship Days: Celebrating 60 With the Crazy B*tches
People have strong opinions about cruising, have you noticed? I suppose it’s like Disney World; some people love it and want to go there all the time, while others would rather have a spicy taco sauce enema.
I am firmly in the pro camp when it comes to cruising. Bill and I kicked off our cruising adventures a million years ago with a Carnival cruise line honeymoon, and a couple of years later, we discovered the magic of Disney cruises. So when a good friend suggested a cruise as a way to celebrate the end of my 50s, I was on board…literally…har har har.
A million billion thank yous to my friends for planning such a memorable trip! The only way I could have enjoyed it more is if the door on our cabin hadn’t gotten stuck on Day 1, briefly trapping us inside. It was absolutely worth the moment of panic, because holy shit, what a fun time! I’m not even sure how to describe it - a bunch of hysterical laughter, followed by more hysterical laughter, followed by a ton of fun, followed by more hysterical laughter. Like side-splitting, jaw-dropping you-can’t-breathe-because-you’re-laughing-so-hard-fun for four days.
It felt like the trip was so far ahead of us for so long, and now, in the blink of an eye, it’s in the rearview and here I am sad it’s over, I loved it so much.
God, it was such a treat being away from home for a few days in the beautiful Bahamas, and the plethora of food options was just the cherry on top. I missed Bill so much I couldn’t wait to come home…but. Well. That’s not quite…Oh, YOU know.
How about some random pictures?
This is the perfect photo to start with - the day back in April when we started planning our cruise.
Here we are, our first group photo after boarding the ship and officially entering vacation mode.
BTW, what’s the deal with my bra? Someone needs a hoist there matey!
Everyone came out to kick things off at the Bon Voyage deck party. A DJ had music pumping and the whole pool deck turned into a giant dance floor.
Here we are hanging out on the upper deck overlooking pool.
Thankfully they fixed our door quickly and we only had to pull and claw our way out a few times on Day 1.
Early morning pool deck view. Let’s focus on the adorbleness of a towel animal on every chair and not think about the ridiculously icky floor boards, okay.
I feel compelled to point out how freaking cute his little towel feet are.
I can’t really say enough good things about this cookie. I didn’t share a crumb and have zero regrets.
Ummmm, is this really the little sushi appetizer mentioned on the dinner menu?
Two Carnival cruise ships, a brand-new private island (opened June 2025), and me remembering how this place was nothing like I remember from our honeymoon - that we were on way back when the Earth’s crust was cooling. Very nice, very different.
On the island, dancers paraded by with a performance that could best be described as “extensive butt shaking.”
And it was, indeed, extensive.
My favorite photo! These are the ladies I adore — The Crazy Bitches: the kick-ass trivia team, the kindest, strongest, funniest, most beautiful on the inside and the outside women I know. I am so unbelievably lucky they are my friends.
(Note to self: STOP WEARING SO MUCH BLACK!!!!)
